First, Intuition is a Sense
Intuition is the sense that can gently connect to internal issues without the use of words.
It is the sense that contacts the subtext of expression.
We need to Normalize Intuition to Empower Intuition
When I was a girl, my father played intuitive games with me. For example, one game featured my little toy barn. My father would put a little animal figure behind the barn door and I would intuit which animal it was. It was great fun and gave my sense of intuition a place alongside all the other senses. Furthermore, it helped me to normalize my use of intuition and understand myself better as an intuitive. Understanding parts of ourselves is empowering us. Using our sense of intuition as a healing tool empowers others.
The Power of an Intuitive Session
In an intuitive healing or therapy session, there is much more going on than meets the eye. Perhaps it might be useful to compare an intuitive session with what we will call a regular therapy session. It is likely in a regular session, like a talk therapy session, that you will be focusing on mental processes and emotional contexts. However, you will not go much below the surface.
Intuitive Counseling Brings Unseen Issues to Light
Talk therapy is useful and effective for certain issues but it is quite different from an intuitive session. In fact, the difference is that in an intuitive session, the unsaid or unseen issues that are within you will gently be brought into the work. In addition, things that you have spent years trying to figure out can become quite clear through intuitive work.
An Example of Intuition in a Session
It may be helpful to cite an example of the use of intuition in a session. A client, who had agreed to an intuitive session, was talking about a certain frustration they experience with their family. As the client was reporting the frustration I “saw” a scene from their childhood. One of the ways my intuition works is I will see something like a scene in a film. It is rather like experiencing a memory, but the scene has no personal connection to me. Another aspect of my intuitive sense is that I will feel the emotions present in the client and in the scene. This is stunning information for healing. In the scene, I saw the client as a child. They were crying and alone, unable to open a locked door. In a gentle and open manner, I offered the client the information.
Recognizing Past Traumas Through Intuitive Counseling
As a result, the client had an instant recognition of a childhood incident where they had been left at home alone when they were less than four years old. They remembered begging and crying. Further, over the course of time, they remembered other incidents where they had been left alone. They were able to ask certain family members about the incidents. And, they were able to connect the frustration with family to the incidents of being left alone. Additionally, they realized that they always felt alone when they were with family.
An Emotional healing Process
It was a heartfelt and emotional process that unfolded into profound healing and empowerment. Indeed, they processed frustrating and confusing emotions around their childhood with family and around adult social groups and the desire to create their own family. As a result, the frustration and other emotions shifted into a new space of reclaimed self-hood and belonging.
What is Intuitive Counseling?
Intuitive Counseling is heart-centered, gentle, and personal. In addition, other tools like tarot, indigenous modalities (used with permission), reiki, and shamanic work may be used in session but are always used ethically and gently with a sense of intuition. Indeed, using the sense of intuition in a session should be as common as using the sense of hearing in a session. Intuition is a perceptive sense. As a healer, I consider intuition the most powerful of the senses.
How Many Senses?
As a child, you were taught that the five senses help you navigate the world. So, you practiced them for years. Yet, the sense of intuition has been with you all the years of your life, and you likely have had experiences with it. When you have an inkling about something or a quick flash of feeling about something in your life and sometime later, it manifests, that is an intuitive moment. If you have thought of someone and then received a text from them, that too is an intuitive moment. Moreover, these moments may have helped you greatly, even when you did not know you needed some assistance. In addition, intuition is a multifaceted sense; it comes in many forms and it offers opportunities for deeper healing and connectivity with the self and the world.
